Spool Desiccant Holder

A slim desiccant container sized to disappear into the hub of a filament spool, so a bagged spool still lies flat and vacuum bags still stack. Two inches across and 2.4 inches tall, vented through the top and all the way down the sides, and it ships with a matching funnel so you can fill it without silica beads going everywhere. Three parts, one plate, no supports.

Slice It Right

Nothing overhangs, so there are no supports on any of the three parts — the mesh wall and the vented lid both print as-is. PLA is fine here; the part lives in a sealed bag at room temperature, so heat resistance never comes into it. If the lid threads onto the body tighter than you would like on your printer, drop to 0.16 mm and reprint just the lid.

Using It

Beads In, Moisture Out

The wall is a 2 x 3 mm diamond mesh and the lid is vented across its whole face, so air moves through the entire body rather than just past an opening at one end. That mesh is sized for 3–5 mm silica gel beads: moisture passes freely, beads stay put. Indicating beads work well, since the vents let you read the color without opening anything.

Seat the funnel on the body, pour, lift it off and screw the lid down — that is the whole routine, and it is why the funnel is in the download rather than sold as an extra. Then drop the container into the middle of a spool and bag the two together. Because it sits inside the hub instead of rattling around loose beside the spool, the bag still pulls down flat and the spools still stack.
