Under-Couch Toy Blocker

My dog Anna kept losing her toys under the couch, so I designed these to close the gap. Each section presses in gently between the floor and the front edge of the couch and helps stop toys from rolling under. A section is 9 in long, and a connector joins them, so you can connect as many as you need to span the front of your couch.

Four parts: the section, a standard connector, a wide connector and a short test piece. Each has its own 3MF with the tested profile, one 3MF carries all four plates, and the STLs are in there for bringing your own.

Check Your Fit

Measure the gap under your couch first. Each section is 229 mm (9 in) long, 88 mm (about 3.5 in) tall and 76 mm (3 in) deep at the base. It is made to compress a little, so it suits a gap slightly under its 88 mm height.

Print the test piece before a full section. It is a 40 mm slice of a section and takes about an hour and a half. Slide it under the couch to check the fit. If your gap is different, scale the section in your slicer until the test piece fits, then scale the connector by the same factor so the two still slide together.

A section prints standing on end, so your printer needs 229 mm of Z height.

Closes the Gap, Not the Airflow

A solid strip would stop the toys too. These are sprung so they hold themselves in place, and vented so the space under the couch still breathes.

Gentle Spring Fit
The curved face flexes, so a section compresses lightly between the floor and the front edge of the couch and stays where you put it. Nothing is screwed or stuck to the furniture.

Diamond Vents
The cutouts let air keep moving under the couch, and they give a floor HVAC vent under there an outlet instead of sealing it in.

Slide-In Connector
A connector slides into the bottom of two sections and joins them into one run. The standard connector butts the sections together; the wide one spaces them 1 in apart, to save a little filament.

Optional Rubber Feet
I added small stick-on rubber feet (not included) to help keep it from sliding on the floor. For a firmer hold you could put hook-and-loop tape under the couch and mount a section upside down, with its base against the couch — I have not needed it.

Slice It Right

These are the settings baked into the 3MFs, sliced for a Creality Hi with a 0.4 mm nozzle. Open one in Creality Print or any slicer that reads 3MF projects and it is ready to go.

One 9 in section is 9 h 14 m and 157 g — 52.63 m of filament, roughly $2.35 in material. The standard connector is 52 m and 21 g, the wide connector 1 h 2 m and 30 g, and the test piece 1 h 29 m and 30 g.

Keep the brim on the section. It is 229 mm tall on a thin footprint, and the 8 mm brim is what holds it to the plate for nine hours.

PLA or PET-G? Mine are PLA. PET-G is a bit more flexible, and it handles warm air better if a heating vent blows under your couch in winter.
